The precursor business to Coca-Cola Amatil in Australia is formed.

1920s

The 1920s were a huge time of expansion. The Coca-Cola Company signed contracts with 23 bottlers in Spain in 1920 and distribution began in 1926. Distribution also began in Belgium in 1927 and Germany in 1929.

1939

Production of Coca-Cola ceased during the Second World War due to lack of raw materials, so we began making Fanta in Germany instead. Production of Coca-Cola didn't begin again until 1949.

6 1953 DurellaFamiy

1953

The World’s Fair takes place in Brussels.
The Coca-Cola Company pavilion features a fully operational bottling plant and all visitors receive a Coca-Cola.

British Tobacco changes its name to Allied Manufacturing and Trade Industries Limited, better reflecting its diversified operations, before becoming AMATIL Limited in 1977.

1986

The Coca-Cola Company merges some of its bottling operations with the John T. Lupton franchises and BCI Holding Corp’s bottling holdings – forming Coca-Cola Enterprises, a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange.

1990

Coca-Cola bottles are sold in East Germany again following the collapse of the Berlin Wall and Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetränke GmbH is founded for bottling and distribution in the east of Germany.

Aquarius, which was introduced in Spain and Portugal a year before, becomes the official drink of the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Coca-Cola Zero makes its debut in the US. It launches in Europe one year later.

Coca-Cola Iberian Partners is born – following the merger of eight Spanish and Portuguese bottlers and an agreement with The Coca-Cola Company to use the Coca-Cola name.

In 1953, The Coca-Cola Company partnered with the Daurella family to create the first bottling plant in Barcelona, Spain. Across the 1950s, The Coca-Cola Company expanded throughout Spain, opening plants in Valencia, Madrid, Tenerife, Palma de Mallorca and Bilbao.

Diet Coke launches in New York City – the first extension of the Coca-Cola trademark brand. The Coca-Cola Company introduced the product as Coca-Cola Light in France, Norway, Sweden and Germany (and as Diet Coke in Great Britain).

1990s

During the 1990s, Coca-Cola Enterprises started making international acquisitions. The first was in the Netherlands in 1993, with bottling operations in Belgium, Great Britain and France in 1996, followed by Luxembourg and Monaco in 1998 and 1999 respectively.
